Strike for love and strike for fear

Beauty in Everything

Born of cold and winter air

And mountain rain combining…

This icy force both foul and fair

Has a frozen heart worth mining

So cut through the heart, cold and clear

Strike for love and strike for fear

See the beauty, sharp and sheer

Split the ice apart!

And break the frozen heart

Hyup! Ho! Watch your step! Let it go!

Hyup! Ho! Watch your step! Let it go!

Beautiful!

Powerful!

Dangerous!

Cold!

Ice has a magic, can’t be controlled.

Stronger than one! Stronger than ten!

Stronger than a hundred men!

Hyup!

Born of cold and winter air

And mountain rain combining!

This icy force both foul and fair

Has a frozen heart worth mining!

Cut through the heart, cold and clear!

Strike for love and strike for fear!

There’s beauty and there’s danger here

Split the ice apart!

Beware the frozen heart…

These are they lyrics to the opening song of Disney’s new movie Frozen.  The song is being sung as iceman are breaking ice into blocks and bringing it back into town to sell.  In all, this song foreshadows the movie whether it talks about Hans or Elsa.  But for this post, I’m going to talk about Elsa and her powers. The bolded lines talk about how how ice is both beautiful and dangerous.  It relates to how Elsa’s powers are both dangerous and beautiful.

“There is beauty in it… but also great danger!”

Based on her emotions, Elsa’s powers take different forms.  When she is scared, angry, or upset, her powers come out as spikes and she cannot control them.  They can hurt those around her.

However, when she is in a good mood, she can control her powers and they come out in beautiful swirls and snowflakes.  She can also make a room into a winter wonderland, and a mystical ice palace.

In my english class, we read an essay titled Jest and Earnest.  It talked about how in cruelty there is beauty and in beauty there is cruelty.  In everything, there are two opposing factors.  We need to understand that there is beauty in everything but there can also be danger.  We tend to think of things being one way but our world is not created like that.  One thing can break of into many different fractals and be more complex that we ever thought.
